Tunngle vs. Hamachi
When it comes to multiplayer gaming, people tend to hold LAN parties or find such similar ways to do gaming with friends who live close to their homes, but with time the gaming scene is changing and there are PC applications which have tricked the computer into thinking that internet is a LAN. The two applications which are quite famous in creating a virtual private network for gaming purpose are Hamachi and Tunngle.
Though the interface of the Hamachi is a little odd and somewhat hard to handle and get used to, but Hamachi is better for professionals who also want data transfers except gaming of course. It allows file transfer and gaming platform which is great as two or more players can play as if they were on LAN.
Tunngle which is easily obtainable from the internet and is a freeware like Hamachi, but its “GUI” is way easier to understand. Tunngle will install its own virtual adapter which makes it easier to connect to one another. For Tunngle one has to register on their website and use the same username in their app to login. After logging in on the left side one observes a list of genres of gaming. For example: Shooter, Puzzle, Racing etc. After clicking on Shooter, one can see a list of rooms with game names. I usually go in Far Cry 2 room as it holds at least 15-30 players anytime I login. Whichever game you want to play, you just go in that room, start the game from your pc and search in LAN menu for servers. There is a huge list of games which one can join in and play. All you need is Tunngle installed on your pc along with any game that can be played on LAN. I have given Tunngle to two of my friends and we usually get together in Far Cry 2 and have a blast. Apart from Far Cry 2, tunngle hosts many game rooms, including Crysis, Call of Duty, Counter Strike, Need for Speed, Dirt and many others.
The main difference between Hamachi and Tunngle is that on Hamachi one can create virtual private networks, while in Tunngle there are rooms already created which we have to join. There are around 367 rooms just in the shooter category to choose from which in my opinion are a handful. These rooms also serve as chat rooms where we get to know players first if we want to mingle with new ones and then play with them.
